“Tell me a little bit about yourself”

This question disguised as a statement always made me a little sick at my stomach.  The response from me always had to change depending on my audience.  Well, today I lay all masks at the door step and unveil the authentic self.  People say what do you ‘do’?  The answer is usually a cookie cutter response of a career choice, housewife, student, etc…  So many years I have tossed the idea around in my head.  What am I about?  What is my thing?  What do I do?  Seems I was always waiting for what I was going to do when I grow up.  Along the way, I found myself identified as a member of the US Air Force, and after that various administrative positions that were mostly some form of ‘secretary’ or ‘assistant’.  In between all that I worked a variety of service jobs, fast food, and so forth.  Everything I did had it’s own elements of love/hate relating, so why bore you with details?  It is only NOW that I can tell you …a little bit about …myself.  In all that flipping and flopping around thinking that some job, or person, or place would define me, I have come to know that who I am is just that–I AM.

(Hope you will enjoy my writing bits and artwork.)

  1. I must admit your about statement is unique. But then you are unique so why not? At 65 I’ve come to grips with who I am as well. I would bore people if I started listing job titles, marriages, children, grandchildren and things I’m passionate about. We all have a set of moral values we live be along with things we’re for and against. Now we’re talking and epic saga full length series of books. Suffice it to say I is who I is! 🙂

    1. Right! I really appreciate your comment here. I love these connections, and also there is NO WAY you can be 65–smile. Then again, why not. Just heard on the radio yesterday (so, of course, it must be true) that 74 is the ‘new’ middle age. Who knew?? Anyway, right on…LIFE…ya know?
      Thanks again.
